For the last few years, I’ve been training consistently on the mats. Only recently, over the past few months, I’ve had the opportunity to start competing and teaching kids. That shift changed everything for me.

Competition pushed me to grow as an athlete. Teaching pushed me to grow as a person, as a training partner, a coach, and a family man. Jiu Jitsu has a way of exposing where you need work, both on and off the mats.

While training and learning, I often catch myself doing what many of us do, overthinking. In those moments, I have to remind myself to slow down, trust the work, and stop overthinking and start flowing. That mindset has carried over into how I teach and how I approach progress.

As a coach, I’ve noticed quickly that kids do not all learn the same way. Some thrive with structure and repetition. Others excel when they are given room to explore, experiment, and work through unorthodox movements or higher level techniques, because that is where their focus and confidence come alive.

Seeing that firsthand reshaped how I think about training and growth.

Grip N Guard was built around that understanding. We believe performance comes from creating the right environment, not forcing everyone into the same system. Our fightwear is designed to stay comfortable, move freely, and never become a distraction, so athletes of all ages can stay present, trust the process, and keep flowing.

Whether you are competing, coaching, or learning alongside your kids, we are here to support the different ways people grow on the mats.

Stop Overthinking. Start Flowing.
